Sunset High School Senior Session, Hammonasset, Madison, CT

One reason why I love doing senior sessions is it can be as personalized as the individual would like it to be. Also it can be creative and I like the challenge of working with various lighting conditions. For these photos taken at Hamonasset Beach in Madison, CT we were racing against the setting sun. We started out with plenty of light and got acclimated to the session(because you know you always have to!) Meanwhile the sun was setting at a rapid pace behind us, which was casting it’s orange glow. You know when it’s 5 o’clock in the summer and the sun is still way up in the sky, you think “I have so much time!” Well, if you push it, next thing you know the sun is at the horizon and all the beautiful golden-ness is gone with it. The sky is twilight and you are getting no ambient light whatsoever. We worked quickly and with the help of my subjects mom, I used a speed lite into a shoot through umbrella, in order to light my subject and balance her exposure with the gorgeous sunset sky in the background.  In the last 2 you can see the twilight sky, peeking through.

Fine Art Friday

Hope everyone is enjoying the shift in temperatures this past week. Felt like beach weather! kind of…

Todays Fine Art post is all about Spring Blooms. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see some color in the landscape. While the winter has a special place in my heart, being a December baby and all, there’s also the Florida girl in me that knows there’s a place where the sun is shining and the trees and grass are green all year round.

Spring-1

But still, we have Spring to look forward too. Our reward after a long winter. Only 7 more days!

Have a good weekend everyone : )

TGIF Fine Art for sale

Happy Fine Art Friday! ( I just made that up)

I have a FOMO complex when it comes to photography. I fear if I leave my camera behind I will miss the shot of my life. Unfortunately, I leave behind my camera more than I’d like, but for good reason. I have 2 beautiful kids and I want to share, experience and live their childhood and not just be recording it through the lense. Don’t get me wrong I take plenty of photos, but I decided a long time ago I had to have some separation of “work” and “Life.”  That’s why I’m eager to get my hands on a point and shoot. I have my eye on a couple of these retro looking mirrorless ones. Not exactly point and shoot, but much lighter and easier to handle than my Nikon.

Where was I going with this? Oh Yeah! FOMO. I took these photos while on vacation with my family, and I’m really glad I had my “good” camera with me, so I could get closeup to these beautiful creatures and their amazing Horns they carry around with them everyday. Impressive for sure. So I played around and decided black and white would spotlight this particular natural wonder.  They’ll be printed using archival quality paper and inks with prices starting at $50 for 8×10.  Also, there is a watermark on them that will be removed for printing. A link where you can purchase them will be uploaded soon. If you have questions before then, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Enjoy the weekend!
