I will be sharing more of these older posts as well as new ones as I venture into travel blogging full time. More to come on that subject, but for now enjoy the photos from my first visit to the Plainville, CT Fire company Hot air balloon festival. Sep. 9, 2013

It’s been a few years since I discovered the fact that there is a balloon fest practically in my back yard. I use practically loosely, but less than 30 minutes to see such a grand exhibit is nothing. It’s easy to get to, despite the 100’s of 1000’s of other people trying to get there too. Maybe not that many, but it’s very popular. It was well worth any effort. So much so that I announced I would be getting up at the crack of dawn (5am in these parts) to witness the sunrise lift off. Well my kids insisted on going with me, and since hubby was “up” because of the rustling of little feet, he came along as well. No one regretted the early morning wake up call, because it was even more spectacular than the evening before. A big, massive balloon being filled with air via a fan (who Knew?), then the blast of hot air to get the balloon upright, then liftoff. One after another. Sometimes 2 would start to stand tall at the same time. It was a feast for the eyes. Then the skies would be filled with the colorful, upside down teardrops drifting off into the distance. What can they see? How far will they go? When will they land? Where will they land? My kids thought for sure some folks would be waking up to one of these in their back yard.

Needless to say I am so glad I was able to finally make it, and for my kids to witness such a grand spectacle. I highly recommend the morning liftoff. Lots of balloons gong up at once, is something worth the early morning wake up call.
